Our History

Calvary Chapel of South Jersey began as a home fellowship in Woodbury, NJ in 1990, at the prayerful suggestion of Joe Focht, our senior pastor and dear friend of CC Philly. Using the simple method of teaching through the Bible, verse by verse, we began.
Within a few years, we had grown out of meeting in home living rooms and moved to a local fire hall in East Greenwich meeting on Sundays with a Sunday School and nursery.
Through the years, we have used several buildings as the Lord opened the door, including an elementary school in Deptford and a Methodist church in Almonessen. In 2001, we received the blessed opportunity to purchase a small Methodist church in Bellmawr and became known as Calvary Chapel Bellmawr. Now in our own building the fellowship grew and we added ministries to suit the needs of our church family and surrounding neighborhood.
Soon we held three Sunday services and a Wednesday evening Bible Study, developed an additions ministry, and expanded women’s and children’s ministries.
As the Lord added to our fellowship, we redesigned and expanded the sanctuary to seat more worshippers. We also purchased the house behind the church to use as office space and bookstore. But then, there was no more room once again! So with the leading of the Holy Spirit and much prayer, our Pastor, Harry Pressley, and Elders presented to the congregation the prospect of an empty school on Hessian Avenue in West Deptford, NJ.
God has blessed us with an amazing facility and through an army of committed and joyful volunteers, we are turning it into a place of life, healing, and restoration for all who enter!
It is our prayer to be a blessing to you personally, to the wonderful community of West Deptford, and to the surrounding area of South Jersey. Please accept this as our personal invitation to you and your family to experience the love and power of Jesus Christ with us as we worship and study His Word.
